OBJECTIVE
I am most interested in a full-time staff carpenter position with a respected scene shop in the San Diego area. However, a spot on the “over hire” list would be a welcome start. I am currently a Journeyman Carpenter with the Motion Picture Studio Mechanics Union Local 476 in Chicago.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
My abilities include benchtop carpentry, set construction, prop construction, laminates, acrylics, hardware installation, MIG and TIG welding, rigging, layout, print interpretation and gang-boss leadership. I come prepared with an extensive tool kit, great attitude, and an excellent work ethic.
EXPERIENCE
2016-Present
Journeyman Carpenter, Motion Picture Studio Mechanics Local 476 - Chicago, Illinois
My duties as a Carpenter here include layout, set construction, set assembly, gang boss leadership and some welding responsibilities. I have worked on Chicago productions including Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, The Redline, Lovecraft Country and many more.
2013-Present
Permit Carpenter, Chicago Scenic Studios, Local 2 - Chicago, Illinois
Scenic carpentry including theater, opera, arena concerts, commercial and retail sets. The “Sausage Nonna’s” commercial shoot and the “Seed to Shelf” exhibits were among my favorites here.
2011-2013
Carpenter, Ravenswood Studios, Lincolnwood, Illinois
Scenic carpentry including theater, opera, commercial and retail sets. I am most proud of my work on “The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes” and “The John Deere Engine and Tractor Museum” while working with industry leaders at Ravenswood Studio.
2013-2009
Fabricator, TenFab, Lincolnwood, Illinois
TenFab created unique exhibits and sets for the museums, trade shows, concerts and retail environments. My work here includes “The Universe: A walk Through Space and Time” at the Adler Planetarium as well as many other award-winning exhibits and booths.
EDUCATION
1996-2000 H.S. Diploma, B.B.C.H.S. Bradley, Illinois
After graduating high school, I immediately entered the construction industry. I worked first as a laborer, eventually becoming a qualified carpenter. Most of my work during this time was siding, roofing and windows installation on new construction homes.
COMMUNICATION
I possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Including blueprint interpretation and crew motivation. Confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities. I am an empathic listener and persuasive speaker.
LEADERSHIP
I have been awarded a gang boss position on many recent productions. My calm approach and organization skills help me to lead a crew of 6–10 carpenters to produce hero sets on deadline.
SUMMARY
I am a high-energy “jack of all trades” carpenter looking for fulfilling, full-time employment in the San Diego area. I am experienced but happy to learn every day from industry veterans. I have a great attitude and learn new skills quickly.
